A chocolate cake is the perfect answer to any question. Doesn’t make sense? Doesn’t matter. Chocolate cake is awesome nonetheless! My favourite kind of chocolate cake hands down has to be a fondant, which is just a fancy word for the ‘choco lava’ cake made famous by Domino’s. I mean who doesn’t love a gooey cake with warm molten chocolate oozing out! But, can you make one yourself? With this super easy molten chocolate cake recipe you can! This recipe is perfect for all you lazy chocoholics out there who want to impress their friends with their awesome cooking skills.
Chocolate Sponge Cake (you can buy one from any local bakery)
Chocolate (coarsely chopped)
You Will Need
Cupcake Moulds (I think the silicon moulds work best) or smooth-bottomed glass bowls
Crush the sponge cake into coarse crumbs and put them into a large bowl.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler.
If you don’t have either, you can place a saucepan with water on the stove and let the water boil. Place the chocolate in a bowl larger than the mouth of the saucepan. Place this bowl on the saucepan so that the heat generated from the steaming water can melt the chocolate, like in the picture below. Just make sure the water does not mix with the chocolate.
Let the melted chocolate cool down.
Little by little pour the melted chocolate onto the broken down cake and knead into a dough, which is firm enough to not stick to your fingers yet soft enough to be moulded without breaking.
Grease the moulds well with butter.
Take the cake-dough and press some into the base of your mould. Take some more and press it all around the wall of the mould, just like the way you do it while making pies or tarts, like in the picture below. Make sure there are no cracks or gaps in the wall or the base.
Pour melted chocolate into the mould, about 2/3 full.
Place the moulds in the refrigerator for 2 minutes.
Remove from the refrigerator.
Take some more cake-dough and press it into a disc of medium thickness.
Place this disc on the top of the mould and press down the edges so that they blend into the cake-dough-wall, sealing the melted chocolate inside.
Place the mould in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
Take out the mould from the refrigerator and remove the cake. Place it onto a plate and microwave for 15 seconds. Enjoy all the melting goodness.
Don’t waste a minute and try this amazing fail-proof molten chocolate cake recipe yourself!
