3 ways to sort out issues with your best friend

“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you”

– Elbert Hubbard

Friends tolerate with each other’s drama, keep each other’s secrets, play pranks together, and much more. There is no limit to what friends do for each other. Some people are lucky to have the same friend throughout their life while others have different friends during different life stages. Whatever is the situation, a friend never betrays. This is the ultimate truth behind all friendships. And, if your friend is as precious as a gem in your life, you are lucky.

Friends fight, hug, tease and bully each other. There are no rules or dos and don’ts in this relationship, because all is fair in friendship. But, if your fight has prolonged long enough for you to find it difficult to compromise, here are a few tips that might help you. Don’t lose your best friend because of ego or reasons that don’t count in friendship.

Apologise and talk it out

Who cares about who is at fault? Is that what best friends do – find fault in each other? Even if your friend is at fault, be the bigger person to talk the situation out and find a way to reconcile. If your friend is not willing to accept her fault (whether she is guilty of it or not), you come forward to apologise. By saying sorry you have nothing to lose. In fact, you are gaining back the good old friendship by doing so.

Listen and give some time

Don’t just go on and on about only your feelings. Pause to hear out your friend’s point of view of the situation as well. Give each other some time to heal. But, don’t take long. Because, by doing so, you are missing on good days with your friend.

Bring in a common friend or talk directly

If the situation is so bad that you friend is not even ready to hear you out, you can bring in a common friend to solve the situation. It is important for you to speak your part of the fight and agree for the common friend to hear out your best friend’s say on it as well. Else, get a sorry card, set of balloons (preferably your friend’s favourite colours) and surprise her at her doorstep with a peck on the cheek. No one can cling on to a fight any further.

Having a best friend is the best feeling. Even if the whole world is against you, your friend will still be beside you. Fights and arguments exist in every kind of relationship. Forgive and forget is your best solution.
