The golden rule of staying fit seems quite easy to follow. Eat well, workout daily, get enough sleep and you will be the healthiest person in no time, right? Surprisingly, it is way more complicated than that. Sometimes the fitness choices we make to remain healthy can backfire. Here are 6 everyday so-called healthy habits that are harmful for your health.

Using hand sanitizer compulsively:
If you grab your hand sanitizer after every time someone shakes hands with you or hands you something, you might want to hold on a bit. Unless you are in a completely germ-ridden area like a hospital, then washing your hands a 2-3 times with plain water will do just fine. A California research firm has found out that most sanitizers these days contain triclosan, which promotes bacteria and resistance to antibiotic medications. This means the medication may not have its effect on you! So, take it easy on the hand sanitizers.

Brushing after every meal: Rushing to brush after breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner may seem like a good way to keep your 32 whites healthy and shining; but guess what? Turns out it is the opposite of that! Food can leave acid on your teeth that weakens the enamel, and brushing while the enamel is in a weakened state can actually scrub the enamel away. Simply rinsing your mouth with water and a few drops of mouthwash can save you the extra brushing sessions.

Only drinking bottled water: Filtered tap water is not bad or unhealthy everywhere in the world. So avoid reaching for a packaged bottle of water as it contains no fluoride at all. Most adults suffer from a fluoride deficiency which leads to tooth decay. Install a water purifier that filters your tap water and drink from it.
Only doing cardio workout: I agree that the best way to lose weight is by sticking to your cardio workout, but doing only cardio while avoiding everything else is more harmful than not exercising at all. Try to integrate a little bit of circuit training, resistance training and interval training in your workout regimen.
Skipping meals: Most people like to skip their meals so that they can eat more calories later in the day. This is absolutely unhealthy. When you skip your breakfast or lunch thinking that you'll eat a rich dinner, you develop cravings that can lead to overeating later in the day. Fill up your tummy on protein bars and other nutrient-rich snacks though out the day, so that you don't binge at night.
Having too much of nutritional supplements: Remember that when it comes to nutritional supplements, less is always more. Sadly, people often take nutritional supplements without understanding if they really need them. You must realize that there are serious side effects of carelessly popping pills without thinking. Eating food instead of taking supplements should be the primary way to fulfill nutritional requirements and deliver health benefits. If your body lacks calcium, drink more milk or eat more healthy cheeses. If you need vitamin C gorge berries and melons.
