Once upon a time in Bollywood it was stated that once an actress gets married her career is over as she is no longer “desirable”. But, times have changed and now bollywood actresses work after marriage and their movies are also successful at the box-office.
But, it looks like after marriage our B-Town actresses become lazy and they find an excuse to reject a film instead of simply signing one like they used to prior to saying “I do”. So, here we have listed down four supremely talented actresses who enjoy immense popularity; but once they walked down the aisle, they chose to be extremely choosy about the films they pick.
1) Kareena Kapoor Khan:
Kareena Kapoor Khan tops our list. Said to be one of the best actresses of Bollywood, Kareena has rejected some plump projects after marriage. To name a few – ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela’, ‘Queen’, ‘Revolver Rani’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, ‘Shuddhi’, ‘Wazir’ (earlier titled as ‘Do’), ‘Durga Rani Singh’, etc. But what’s even more interesting is the statement she gave recently as a justification to this spate of refusals – she’d said that she rejected these films so that other actresses can be superstars. Are you serious, Kareena?
2) Vidya Balan:
The ‘Shero’ of Bollywood, Vidya Balan, who gave ruled the box office with films life ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’, unfortunately, failed to create magic at the box-office after marriage. Clearly, with her ace acting she wasn’t to be blamed; but sadly, her choice of films was wrong! Perhaps that’s the reason why she has become all the more cautious now. Reportedly, she has been offered six biopics, but she has not yet given her nod for any of them. The actress currently has only one film in her hand right now – ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’.
3) Rani Mukerji:
Rani Mukerji is the new entry in the married actresses’ league. The actress, who tasted success with the film ‘Mardaani’ after marriage, reportedly rejected an important role in ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’. Earlier, it was said that Rani rejected the film because of intimate scenes in the movie, but at the trailer launch of ‘Mardaani’, the actress had stated that she is ready to do bold scenes. However, Dibaker Banerjee, the director of ‘DBB’ stated that she was busy at that time and that’s why didn’t do the film. There was a buzz that she had been offered Haseena Parkar’s (Dawood’s sister) biopic. But, Apoorva Lakhia, who was about the direct the biopic, rubbished the rumours. So, now she has no film in her kitty.
Sridevi took around 15 years to make a comeback on silver screen. The actress, who did ‘English Vinglish’ in the year 2012, slowed down once again and since the past two years she has not appeared on screen. The 51-year-old actress was also offered a role in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ opposite Anil Kapoor, but she rejected the offer as she did not want to play a mother to Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. However, a movie of the actress has been announced, and will reportedly start in Jan 2015.
5) Madhuri Dixit-Nene
Madhuri Dixit tried to make her comeback twice after getting married. Her comeback movies – ‘Aaja Nachle’, ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ and ‘Gulaab Gang’ – failed to create magic at the box-office. But, even like Sridevi, when Madhuri was offered Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ opposite Anil Kapoor, she refused to do the film. And currently there are no reports of the actress doing any movies.
It looks like after marriage actresses are giving more priority to their personal life than their professional life.
