There was a time in Bollywood when almost all superstars of today (like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, etc) played double role on screen. Later on, however, the trend died a slow death. But now it seems that this trend is back, and how!
This time around, the trend was started by none other than the Greek God of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan. This green-eyed hero did a double role last year, in his superhero flick ‘Krrish 3’. While he played the hot and happening young Krishna aka Krrish, he splendidly also played the role of Rohit, Krishna’s father. Well, his double avatar surely worked in favour of the film and the movie entered the niche 150cr club.

Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is known for breaking records at the box-office. When he played single roles, his movie set records in the 100 crore club and 200 crore club; so ofcourse when the actor played double role in ‘Dhoom 3’, the movie set a new benchmark with the 300cr club. Two Aamirs created great magic at the box-office and the movie entered in the 500cr club with the worldwide collection.
Saif Ali Khan went one step further, and opted to do triple role in Sajid Khan’s catastrophic ‘Humshakals’. However, unfortunately Saif’s triple role didn’t work and the movie sank at the box-office. Anyway, now Saifu is trying his hands at doing a double role in the film ‘Happy Ending’. One of the characters is that of a writer while the other is a rockstar.

Like Saif even Riteish Deshmukh opted to do triple role in ‘Humshakals’, but it didn’t work well for him. However, when he did a double role in his Marathi debut ‘Lai Bhaari’, the movie became a blockbuster in Marathi cinema.
So, it looks like triple roles are actually unlucky for the stars. You might have heard that saying; “Teen Tigada, Kaam Bigada.” Anyway, let’s move on…
The large-hearted superstar Salman Khan has done double roles in films like ‘Karan Arjun’ and ‘Judwaa’, and now the actor is all set to do double role again… not just in one film, but in two of his upcoming films. We will get to see two Salmans in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and two Salmans in ‘No Entry Mein Entry’. This means four Salmans. We think that Salman is all set to enter the 400cr club now.
If Salman is doing double roles, then how can Shah Rukh Khan be behind? Our very own King Khan has played double role in many films like ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Koyla’, ‘Duplicate’, ‘Paheli’, ‘Don’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Ra.One’. While most of his double role outings have proved to be successful, some others failed to create magic at the box-office. However, now once again he is all set to experiment with two roles in the film ‘Fan’. He will be playing two different characters – one a superstar and another a common man.
If you thought it’s only the heroes who are opting to go double in their flicks, we have the ‘Queen’ of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut, who is here to break that myth. The curly-haired actress will be seen in a double role in her upcoming film ‘Tanu Weds Manu Season 2’. In addition to reprising the endearing character of Tanu in the sequel, the actress will also be seen as an athlete who’s diagonally different from her other avatar in the flick.
Considering the fact that this list is increasing with each passing day, we need to wait and watch for how long this trend will continue and who else will join this list :)
