The King Khan of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan started his career as a TV actor with the serial ‘Fauji’. He later also starred in the serial ‘Circus’. After impressing everyone with his act on small screen, SRK entered into films and has conquered the Hindi film industry.
SRK is a perfect example of a TV actor becoming a superstar of Bollywood. But, unfortunately not many TV actors are successful in making a mark on the big screen.
Let’s have a look at some hit TV actors who failed to make it big in Bollywood.

We start with Ronit Roy, one of the most popular faces of television. Ronit started his career with films, but failed to make a mark in the industry. But, on small screen he managed to get the attention with roles of Rishabh Bajaj, Mihir Virani, Advocate K D Pathak, etc. Today Ronit is one of the highest paid actors on television, but when it comes to movies we get to see him in some supporting roles, but not as a lead actor.
We remember Amar Upadhyay as the first Mihir Virani. The biggest mistake he did in his career was that he left the serial to enter into Bollywood. He made a debut with the much hyped film ‘Dhund’ and the movie was a disaster at the box-office. After working in some B-grade movies he once again turned his way to small screen, but he couldn’t reach the success he got with the role of Mihir Virani.
Said to be one of the most beautiful faces of television, Aamna Shariff too opted to try her luck in Bollywood. However, like her peers even Aamna failed to be successful in B-Town. But, she bounced back with a hit serial and once again proved that she is surely one of the most successful actresses on small screen. However, proving her mettle in acting Aamna made her big screen comeback with ‘Ek Villain’, for which she got a lot of appreciation. But, still Aamna is not a star in B-town.
With her pretty face, and acting talent, Anita Hassanandani surely had the potential to be a star in Bollywood. But, luck didn’t work in her favour. She grabbed everyone’s attention with films like ‘Kucch To Hai’, ‘Krishna Cottage’, etc, but, couldn’t make it big in Bollywood. However, she is currently having a good run on TV.
Rajeev Khandelwal, popular as Sujal on small screen, made an impressive debut with the film ‘Aamir’. But after that he just disappeared and starred in some low budget films, which failed to give his filmy career a boost. Well, while most of the actors opt to leave industry and move to small screen again, Rajeev has not yet taken that step and is still struggling in B-town.
Hussain Kuwajerwala was a hot property of television. He was said to be the chocolate boy of TV. But, when this chocolate boy of small screen made his Bollywood debut with a serious movie like ‘Shree’, he got unnoticed. People don’t even know when this movie released and when it was out of the theatres. Hussain is not seen on small screen regularly as he is currently working in musical play ‘Zangoora – The Gypsy Prince’.
Like Amar Upadhyay, even Sara Khan did one of the biggest mistakes of her life – she left the show ‘Bidaai’ in which she played the lead role of Sadhna. She took this step to enter into movies. However, she hardly got any movies and ended up starring in some B-grade movies. She has once again returned to the small screen.
