How to be known as a responsible person

Responsibility is something that needs to be earned. It has a direct correlation with accountability. Responsibility stems from being liable and trustworthy. If you want to be treated like a responsible person, you need to learn to live like one. If you are struggling in this area, here is how you can work towards it.

Do not involve yourself in gossip

If you are to be known as a responsible person, you need to stay out of other people’s business. The new knowledge that you may have acquired from even hearing gossip can be tough to keep to yourself at times. That’s just human nature. If you talk about a third person to someone, he may feel that you may talk behind his back as well, which means you lose the person’s trust.

Stop making excuses

You can avoid taking responsibility for your actions, but when it comes back to bite you, there’s no dodging it that time. Learn to stop making excuses for what could have happened. Accept responsibility for your actions or lack of it.

Honesty

Honesty is closely related to accountability. An honest person is trustworthy. As I mentioned above, if you manage to gain a person’s trust, you are responsible in that person’s eyes. This is because the person believes that you are responsible enough to keep the information he may pass on to you without snitching.

When asked to do something, give it your best

When you are able to deliver results as promised, people will start to respect you and trust you more. This builds your image as a responsible person.

Respect your superiors

When you respect your superiors, it shows that you are responsible enough to handle situations. I say this because a responsible person is and must be accountable.
