We often believe that our face is the most exposed part of our body, and an easy target for the harsh and ruthless sunrays. So, we prep it up before going out by applying dollops of sunscreen, to avoid an ugly-looking tan. But not many of realize that we have ignored the innocent skin on our feet which often fall prey to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Add to that, extreme weather conditions, pollution, and medical conditions like fungus, infections, bacteria, poor blood circulation and diabetes, and what you get is hyper-pigmented, tanned dark feet. Even tight shoes can cause friction which would further darken our feet. This is why regular pedicures are essential. But pedicure only cares for our tired feet and remove their dead skin cells; so, what about the pigmentation and darkness? Thankfully, there are many at-home natural remedies to cure dark feet without shelling out money at the salons.

Now coming back to the remedies to cure dark feet, here are a few things you can try.
Lemon is a natural bleaching agent. From sun tan to pigmentation, lemon juice can cure any darkness on your feet (and also on all other parts of your body!) Massage your dark feet with lemon juice for a few minutes and wash it off with cold water. You can also mix a teaspoon of honey with lemon juice and use it to massage your feet. Wash off after 10-15 minutes, apply a moisturizer with cocoa or shea butter, and wear socks. Doing this every night for a week will take care of the problem.
It may be that your feet are dark due to extreme dryness. In such a case, a heavy moisturizer like coconut oil may help you. Massage your feet every night with some warm coconut oil and wear socks to let the moisture seep in.
White vinegar and salt:
Add half a teaspoon of vinegar and one teaspoon rock salt to a tub half filled with lukewarm water and soak your feet in the solution for 10 minutes. Scrub gently with a soft bristled brush and wash off with plain water. The vinegar and salt will help to visibly lighten your dark feet in a few days.
Gram flour (besan):
A paste made with gram flour, lemon juice and milk when applied to the dark areas of the feet will give great results.
Mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder with equal amounts of table salt and fresh yogurt, and use it to scrub your feet. After scrubbing for a few minutes, leave it on to dry. Wash your feet with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Tomato juice is known to get rid of sun tan and even lighten pigmentation on skin. Slice a tomato in half and rub it on your feet until only the skin remains.
Potato juice also helps get rid of any extra melanin pigment on your feet. So, scrub it for a few minutes and leave it on to dry. After almost 10 or 15 minutes, wash your feet with lukewarm water and use a towel to pat dry. No more dark feet!
