Stir Up A Healthy Sizzler In 30 Minutes


Sizzler, a very special dish for the diet conscious eater, is a yummy combination of flavours and healthy nutrients. It is one of those delicacies that are easily delicious and extremely healthy at the same time. This low-calorie dish is relished with much fervour in top restaurants and eateries across the globe. But I say, why pay a bomb for your favourite food when you can comfortably stir it up in your very own kitchen! So I thought of making your life (and mine) a lot easier… Yes, you guessed – recipe for a healthy sizzler!

I once accidentally fell upon this recipe and had a lot of free time and a hungry family, so I gave it a try. To my surprise, the dish was ready in less than half an hour! (Of course I adapted it a bit). Since, the time I made this, my family demands it every weekend. They call it “heaven on a platter”. So here’s the recipe, give it a try and let me know how it was.

1/2 kg boneless chicken

1 tsp chopped garlic

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion, roughly chopped

1 tomato chopped

1 capsicum roughly chopped

2-3 tbsp tomato ketchup

2 tbsp white vinegar

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper powder

1 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp mustard paste (rai)

1-2 tbsp all purpose flour

Method: Cut the boneless chicken into equal sized pieces. Prepare the marinade in a large bowl by mixing together ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, salt, pepper, mustard paste and red chilli powder. Let the chicken marinate in this mixture for 10-20 minutes. Next step is to prepare the flour mixture. Mix the flour in half a cup of water or more as per desired consistency. Heat a sizzler pan (if you do not have a sizzler pan, use a heavy bottom non-stick pan) directly on the flame of your stove. Alternatively you can also use your oven grilling tray as a sizzler pan; just place in the oven, grease and pre-heat and remove. Now add the olive oil to the pan and fry the chopped garlic until golden brown. Then get your marinated chicken, dip it in the flour mixture and put it on the sizzler pan. Do not throw away the left over marinade. Cover the chicken with a lid and let it cook from within. After 5-10 minutes, add the left over marinade and the veggies and let it cook on the flame. If using the oven, add just the chicken pieces at first and grill for 4-5 minutes; remove and add the marinade and veggies and grill again.

Yummy, healthy chicken sizzler is ready to serve! This recipe is so versatile that you can make the same sizzler using mutton or steak; but you’ll need to marinate it over night and probably give it a 5 minute steam before grilling. Vegetarians can use boiled soya chunks or homemade paneer.
