If you still believe that beauty regimen and skin care is for women only, you couldn't be more wrong! To start with, men's skin is oilier with larger pores. This means men are more prone to breakouts and clogged pores (considering that dudes sweat a lot). It's time to take things more seriously, guys. Skin care issues like acne and pimples can turn nasty in no time; so, to prevent that from happening, here are some great summer skin care tips for men!
Clean your skin twice a day with a good quality facial cleanser containing no soap or any detergent. Soap can make the topmost layer of your skin extremely dry which can confuse the sebaceous glands under your skin and cause them to produce more sebum and oil. Pick a clarifying cleanser (try a good face cleanser from Himalaya, Garnier, or Nivea) and gently massage it on your wet skin for 2-5 minutes. This will also prepare your skin for shaving.

Exfoliate your face and body with a good homemade scrub (find some easy and effective homemade scrubs here) to get rid of the dirt, grime and dead skin cells which make your skin look dark and dull. Since men have relatively tough skin, using an exfoliant twice a week is essential. Don't forget the lips! If you smoke, your lips may get chapped and discoloured easily. So, gently scrub your lips to increase blood circulation and wear a lip butter to make them soft and kissable. ;)
Use a toner:
Just because men have tougher skin doesn't mean you'll have lesser issues to deal with. In fact, the opposite of that is true. Men need a strong astringent to close their pores and avoid clogging and breaking out. Rub some ice on your face after cleansing and scrubbing it and then dab a cottonball dipped in toner on your oily T-zone.
You may want to remain hair-free all the time, but try not to shave every day during summer. Summer is already a difficult time for your skin as it is dealing with so many issues and shaving will only cause it more damage. Your skin needs to repair and heal after every shave and that takes about 2 or 3 days so shaving everyday is a strict no-no! Shave twice a week and trim if you have to. Also don't forget to use a good moisturizing and cooling after shave water.
Stay away from heavy creams. Since male skin is so oily, you must avoid using heavy oil-based creams, and after-shave lotions. Go for gel and water-based products that are cooling and soothing to summer skin. Pick a gel-based sunscreen or a liquid sunscreen and spray it on your skin after every few hours.
Indulge your skin:
Get a bimonthly facial done. If you feel awkward to visit a salon for a facial, do it yourself at home. There are many different homemade face packs that can cure all your skin woes however tough it may be. Try this pack: Mix 2 tablespoons of fuller's earth (multani mitti) with 2 tablespoons of refrigerated rose water, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Apply this pack on a cleansed face and wash off with cool water once dry. Use a light water or gel-based moisturizer (Clinique and Neutrogena have some nice oil-free ones).
So you see, skin care doesn't have to be complicated and most definitely not only for women. So, go ahead and give your skin some much-needed TLC today!
