Are Detox Diets Effective? Here's Our Take!
Being a part of a rather unhealthy society, we tend to fall for the most trivial fitness trends that emerge from time to time. One such trend that we fell for was the detox diet, which claimed to cleanse the body in certain predefined periods. Well, while they're not all scams, certain companies seem to have used them to their advantage and cashed in on these diets. They've totally convinced you to blow thousands on what would otherwise cost you mere hundreds. Detox diets are effective, to a certain extent. However, if you keep following these for more than needed, you'll just be depriving your body of a lot of essential nutrients. Here are a few points to remember, which will help you draw the line.
Your Livers And Kidneys Can Detoxify The Body
The detoxification trend must've definitely started off with some nature-endorsing person claiming that his body has been cleaner than ever by just surviving on vegetables. Well, that's not how things really work, though. Our bodies have an amazing detoxification system which includes the liver, kidneys, spleen, and the skin. These body parts have been clearing out all the toxins since humankind has been around. So, while your detox diet may help this process, it is not absolutely necessary.
The Level Of Toxins Does Not Keep Rising
If the level of toxins kept rising like people claim, we'd all be dead by now. We can all survive without these diets, owing to the amazing job our body parts are doing. Our excretory system is an intricate one, and takes care of everything, even the detoxification process. There is no concrete research that has been able to prove that the excretory system needs that detox diet.
Greens Are Good, But Not At The Cost Of Others
It's a known fact that greens are an essential source of vitamins and minerals. However, what most people forget is that these nutrients are best absorbed with proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Most people will ask you to consume the greens and can the other nutrients. This is disastrous for the body, as you also lose your muscle mass along with the fat. You'd also get crazy because of cravings and frustration.
A Major Chunk Of Detox Diets Is A Scam
Like I said before – not all detox diets are scams. However, the demand for detox juices has led to the creation of a multi-million dollar industry that feeds us lies. They have made us blindly believe that we need these juices to avoid bad health. The end result is simple – we go and buy all these juices to avoid the non-existent risk. This is why most of the things you hear about these diets may be total lies.
So, I've given you the other side of these diets! When you choose to go for a detox diet, treat it as a catalyst, not the process! Till then, take care!
