Not getting enough sleep seriously impairs your cognition. According to a study conducted, subjects were better at remembering things, or making decisions related to the task at hand after a good night sleep than they were when they were kept awake through the night.
Getting insufficient sleep will make you forgetful as well as block you from retaining any new information. If you are trying to jam in newer information into a mind and body that is already under stress because of lack of sleep, the new information won't stick.

The body needs sufficient rest to build newer cells and maintain immunity. In the event of sleepless nights and days, the resistance against diseases and proper functioning of the body lowers considerably, thus making you prone to illness.
We have all heard of times where a major vehicular accident takes place simply because the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Lack of sleep does that to you especially if you are travelling alone and work late nights. So make sure you don't hit the wheel when you know what you really need to do is hit the bed.
