Beauty benefits of lemons
Apart from being a great kitchen ingredient, lemons can be effectively used as part of your beauty routine. Overflowing with vitamin C, lemons are low in calories and high in potassium. They also contain compounds that have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. This naturally acidic fruit has a number of beauty benefits. Let's take a look at some of them:
Lemon and sugar make a great exfoliant
Lemon can be doubled up as an effective skin exfoliant as its acidic properties can help remove dead skin cells. Slice a lemon into half and rub it in granulated sugar. Now use this lemon on your skin as an exfoliant for smoother and soft skin.
If you find your elbows and knees darker, rub some lemon directly onto it to lighten them up. Lemon also acts as a bleaching agent to clear up dark elbow and knee patches.
Lemon as a teeth whitener
Mix together lemon juice with baking soda and apply it to your teeth. Now use a toothbrush to scrub your teeth. Rinse them off to notice a significant change.
To strengthen nails:
If you have dry and brittle nails, try lemon to strengthen them. Mix together lemon juice with olive oil and soak your nails in it. They will not only help strengthen your nails but will also lighten your nails if they've been discoloured.
To lighten freckles:
Lemon can also be used to lighten freckle marks. Use some fresh lemon juice on your freckles and leave it overnight. Follow this routine for a few weeks to notice significant lightening of your freckles.
Cure for dandruff:
Lemons can cure dandruff naturally
Slice lemon and dip it in a saucer of salt. Now scrub this salt-laden lemon onto your hair, this is a great remedy for dandruff. It is natural and causes no itching.
In a bowl mix lemon water and coconut water in equal proportions, now using a brush apply this mixture onto your scalp. Lemon with the help of coconut water will stop hair fall and nourish the roots of the hair.
To curb smelly hair:
Sometimes egg hair packs or strong oil treatments can leave your hair smelly; in fact, sweat can also cause foul smelling hair. Boil a lemon in hot water until it softens/melts. To this mixture, add a few drops of rose water and store the entire mixture in a spray bottle. Every time your hair stinks, just spray this mixture onto your hair.
Are you scared about the chemicals in your hair colour? If so, try a natural remedy instead. In a bowl squeeze four lemons, and apply this juice on your hair. Now apply a regular conditioner on it and expose your hair to direct sunlight, while applying more lemon juice to your hair every few minutes. After 15 minutes, you will notice that your hair has changed colour.
