The Co-Washing Hair Care Routine
Short for conditioner-washing, co-washing is a recent trend that joins the no-poo hair care bandwagon. Experts claim that using only conditioner, you can not only restore strength in your hair but also live comparatively chemical-free!
Typically, you wash your hair two or more times during the week. Somehow, you always end up crying at the clogged drain and get nightmares about your receding hairline. Co-washing claims to be the end-all solution to it all!

How Do You Co-Wash?
Most hair care experts and stylists recommend that you start slow. Since your scalp is used to regular usage of shampoo and conditioner, a drastic change may catch it off-guard, resulting in an overly oily scalp. Your skin produces enough sebum to compensate for the loss of natural oils during shampooing. This is why co-washing should be gradually incorporated into your regime.
Instead of completely going cold turkey, opt to co-wash once or twice a week, followed by using a mild cleanser weekly or bi-monthly.
Begin by saturating your hair thoroughly in the shower. Using a sulfate-free conditioner, massage your scalp. Work in the conditioner gently from root to tip and let it penetrate your hair by keeping it on for 5-10 minutes.
Then, use lukewarm water to wash your hair, taking care to thoroughly rinse off the product. An inadequate rinse may result in an itchy scalp, which is why it is essential you wash your hair properly. Air-dry hair and you'll be left with a gorgeous, hydrated mane!
While co-washing is especially recommended for curly and coily hair types that have a lot of volume, it can benefit everybody. Opt for this routine with baby steps and figure out what schedule works the best for you.
