Focus on the whole unit while working out.
Crunches aren't the only remedy for abs. Make sure you train to keep your lower back, transverse abdominals and obliques equally fit. That way, it'll increase your strength for heavy lifting, and will prevent imbalances.
‘Anti' movements while training
Do resisting movement exercises. Your core comes into play while doing such exercises, keeping you away from jerks and from falling due to imbalance. Improved exercises bring in these anti movements.
Such exercises appropriately put pressure upon your core from every angle. You might take a while getting used to these standing exercises. But these exercises make you use your core, more than the crunches or other lying exercises do.
Eat the right meal
Make sure you eat food with the correct set of nutrients in them. Look away from calories. And most importantly, do not eat less or starve.
Shrink stress as much as you can
What brings out fat in the belly the most is cortisol, which is a stress hormone. A lot of stress would keep fat from piling up, and would never allow you to see your abs come out, regardless of the amount of workout. So make sure you get rid of all your stress to live happy, in high spirits.
