Holi Special: Easy-To-Make Chilled Flavoured Thandai
Holi marks the onset of spring and the beginning of those dreaded hot months. Hence, chilled thandai has become synonymous in a way with Holi. Refreshing glasses of thandai are like an icing on the cake, or should I say colours and festivities. This delicious milk-based drink is a safer and healthier version of bhaang, the ultimate Holi drink.
The regular thandai usually takes a lot of time and tastes a bit monotonous after a second glass. So if you wanna surpise the guests coming over for the celebrations of Holi, try twisting the regular thandai with these flavoured ones. And yes, they are so easy to make!
100 grams of melted chocolate (for chocolate thandai), or 1 mango cut into pieces (for mango thandai)
2 litres milk
Almonds (blanched and peeled)
Cashew nuts (soaked)
Pistachios (blanched and peeled)
Melon seeds (soaked)
Poppy seeds or khuskhus (soaked)
½ cup sugar
Ready For Some Relishing Thandai?
Grind the almonds, cardamom, cinnamon, pistachios, cashew nuts, melon seeds and poppy seeds with three spoons of milk in a grinder to make a thick paste. Boil the rest of the milk in a pan and add saffron and sugar. Ensure that the sugar melts completely. Grind this milk with the paste, rose water and your chosen flavor (chocolate or mango) in a grinder. Chill the thandai for around an hour. Now serve the chilled thandai to your guests, and they will surely not stop after the first glass!
The best part about this recipe is that you can incorporate the flavor of your choice into it easily. The procedure remains the same while the taste completely changes. You could make anything from strawberry thandai to mint thandai by following the same steps! Make this Holi memorable with an unconventional flavoured thandai :)
